All Avis rentals include Standard Cover with basic roadside assistance.

For extra peace of mind, you can add protection packages to lower your excess and get full support in case of an accident or breakdown. Simply add a protection package to your online booking at the same time as extras like child seats or additional drivers.

What’s included in Standard Cover?

The price of every rental includes:

  • Help with mechanical faults, non-driver battery issues, or manufacturing defects
  • Local emergency support across Europe, the Middle East and Africa

Please note that incidents due to driver error may incur charges.

Excluded from Standard Cover:

  • Excess payable in event of theft or damage
  • Running out of fuel
  • Lost/damaged keys
  • Tyre damage from misuse
  • Incorrect fuel
  • Flat battery due to lights or electrics left on

Excess Reduction

Adding Vehicle Cover or Vehicle Cover Plus to your reservation reduces the excess payable per incident to zero on standard car groups. When purchased for vans the excess will be significantly reduced2.

The cost for Vehicle Cover and Vehicle Cover Plus packages will depend upon the vehicle and length of rental.

Windscreen Cover is not included in Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg and Spain


Car Rental Breakdown Assistance

In addition to the standard breakdown assistance included in the cost of your rental, our Roadside Assistance Plus add-on covers non-mechanical issues such as:

  • Tyre damage – fitting a spare or arranging towing. (Additional charges for replacement tyres apply unless a package with zero or excess reduction is purchased.)
  • Flat battery
  • Lost keys
  • Lock-out service – access if keys are locked inside
  • Fuel delivery if you run out of fuel (fuel cost applies).

  • In the UK – Avis provides free 24-hour roadside assistance. Call the freephone number in your rental agreement.
  • Outside the UK, please refer to your rental paperwork or ask at the rental desk for the local emergency number.

  • Check everyone’s safety, and, if needed call the police in a case of third-party liability, or emergency services, if anyone is injured.
  • If you can leave the car, find a safe place to wait for assistance.
  • Remember not to leave the vehicle without ensuring it is secure.
  • Call the Avis Breakdown Helpline number immediately.
  • Record names/addresses of all parties involved and witnesses; never admit liability.
  • Complete the accident form in your rental papers.
  • Do not arrange repairs yourself.

Yes. If you add Avis Inclusive or Roadside Assistance Plus to your booking, we’ll provide a replacement vehicle or help you complete your journey.

  • Prices quoted are for rentals picked up from "Standard" locations. Rentals from "Premium" locations will be higher. Please check the prices during the booking process.
